UT BOGOR PARTICIPATES IN AAOU ACCREDITATION PILOT RUN, STRENGTHENING THE QUALITY OF DISTANCE EDUCATION

BOGOR – Universitas Terbuka (UT) continues to strengthen the quality of its educational services in Indonesia. In order to support this, UT is applying for an Accreditation Pilot Run organized by the "Asian Association of Open Universities" (AAOU) Accreditation System on March 1-3, 2024.

In this activity, UT Bogor was chosen as one of the best UT examples and had the opportunity to be visited by the AAOU Team. The AAOU team that visited UT Bogor consisted of Prof. Li Kam Cheong from School of Open Learning, Hong Kong Metropolitan University and Prof. Dr. Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Ph.D. from University of the Philippines Open University.

Their arrival was accompanied by Prof. Dr. T. Basarudin, member of the Executive Board of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). These special guests were warmly welcomed by the Director of UT Bogor, Drs. Enang Rusyana, M.Pd., who immediately took them to the VIP room.

A warm discussion took place in the VIP room, where the Director of UT Bogor explained the academic process for one semester. Professors do not hesitate to ask questions and occasionally compare with experiences in their countries. "Some things are similar to my country," said Prof. Dr. Melinda was warmly welcomed by the participants.

After the discussion, the guests were invited to tour the UT Bogor facilities. They visited the Online Examination room on the third floor, the hall, and then to the ground floor, where they were attracted by the podcast equipment as well as the well-appointed computer laboratory, used by both tutors and students.

Furthermore, this accreditation activity will take place from 1 October to 3 October 2024 at UT Pusat and UT Bogor. AAOU's accreditation team, including leading education experts, assesses various aspects of UT's educational services.

"Participation in this accreditation is UT's tireless effort to improve the quality and relevance of its education on the global stage," said UT Vice Chancellor, Rahmat Budiman, in an official statement, Wednesday (2/10/2024).

In his presentation, Rahmat explained that UT provides unlimited quality higher education, with a focus on UT's vision and mission to serve 1 million students and encourage national and global development.

UT's hope from this Pilot Run is that AAOU can perfect an accreditation instrument that can be applied to all distance universities in Asia and the world. It is hoped that this accreditation model will strengthen UT's position as a leading open distance education institution, not only in Asia but also on the global stage.

By participating in AAOU accreditation, UT is not only trying to improve its quality, but also reinforces its commitment as a pioneer of world-class distance education. Hope it is useful.
